CCA Fall in Season Opener to Newly Revived Phoenix FC

15 Feb 2020 by Mark Pallo

Slow starts to the season have been known to plague CapCity and today was no exception. An early 7:45am kickoff at WRAL Soccer Complex under 29’ temps saw CCA fall 3-2 to Phoenix FC. Phoenix drew first blood early and often and took a quick 2-0 lead in the first 15 minutes one being a questionable offside call. Once settled in the same scoreline held at the break.

With about 30 minutes left in the match the Alliance drew within one only to see Phoenix notch a 3rd five minutes later. The club fought hard and grabbed a late 2nd goal but salvaging a draw in the final 15 minutes wasn’t meant to be. 3-2 final.

Club Chairman and CEO Grant Kaley had these words in his post game presser.

“I know today didn’t go as planned. I think we came out a little lazy and soft and gave them more of the game early on. But I’m proud of the way we fought on, organized, and scrapped back. We were the better team over the last 60 mins of the match.”
